National Highways have released the following update regarding the upcoming M4 closure which parishioners may wish to note:
M4 weekend closure – date change to 24 to 27 October
We’ve changed the dates of the M4 closure in both directions between junction 18 (Bath) and junction 19 (M32).
We’ll now close the road from 7pm on Friday 24 October to 6am on Monday 27 October.
We need the closure to lift eight steel beams into place for the new A432 Badminton Road Bridge.
This marks the final major construction stage for this scheme. It will be the last full weekend closure of the M4 for this project.
We needed to change dates due to a delay in producing the bridge beams.
We don’t expect the date change to affect our project programme. The new bridge is due to open to the public in early 2026.
Over the coming weeks we’ll continue building the bridge. Our work on the new wing walls is well underway.
Avoid the area where possible
3,000 to 4,000 vehicles us this section of motorway every hour during peak weekend periods. We expect substantial disruption.
We strongly advise you to avoid the area where possible and plan your journey for a different time.
Diversion
If you’re travelling westbound:
- leave at M4 junction 18 and join the A46 towards Bath
- take the A420 towards Warmley at the A46/A420 junction past Pennsylvania
- join the A4174 towards the M32 at the A420/A4174 junction in Warmley
- connect to the M4 at junction 19 via M32 junction 1
If you’re travelling eastbound, follow the same diversion in the opposite direction.
Please follow diversion signs and not satnavs.
Please remember that closures can change at short notice. The work due to take place depends on good weather. If we can’t work on 24 – 27 October, we’ll rearrange the closure for Friday 31 October to Monday 3 November.
