We are delighted with the new bench which has been installed outside the Town Hall on the High Street. It sits just inside the alcove and we hope it will provide a sheltered seating spot for those waiting for the bus or out on a walk. In case you are wondering it has been fitted in front of a false door!
We consulted the community and South Gloucestershire Council about several different potential bench locations around the village last spring. Following positive feedback and permission from South Gloucestershire Council, two more benches will be installed in time for the spring: one on the Amberley Way green by the path, and one on the Sodbury Road grass verge next to the flower trough. Made from sturdy recycled plastic, the benches require minimal maintenance and are environmentally friendly.
The benches and installation costs have been funded from Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) money. Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge on new development, collected by South Gloucestershire Council. A small proportion is then distributed to the local Parish Council. Wickwar Parish Council has received £118,352.36 of CIL funding from the Tyndale Reach and Saxon Gate Estates since April 2019, and £53,306 from the pot has already been invested or committed to enhance the infrastructure of the parish.
