Wickwar Floods
Last week Wickwar suffered almost unprecedented flooding. With little assistance from South Gloucestershire Council, Wickwar Parish Council is in the process of setting up a small working group to try to identify the exact causes of the recent local flooding and to propose and implement solutions.
Parish Councils can raise funding for local flood resilience and flood defence measures from various Environmental agencies, as well as encouraging our County Council to undertake specific regular maintenance in problem areas. Residents can also assist by monitoring their local watercourses and informing the Parish Council or the relevant authority (Highways, Water Company, Railways etc) if work is needed (such as gutter cleaning or blocked drains). Ultimately we want to reduce the risk to homes and roads within our Village.
DO YOU have any expertise or experience in this area? We know Wickwar is full of talented people. If you have relevant experience in flood management or drainage or anything else that you think would be helpful we would love to meet you for an hour or two.
Please contact Sarah our Parish Clerk on clerk@wickwarparishcouncil.gov.uk if you can help Wickwar.
