Here is a brief reminder of some of the ways in which Wickwar is remembering the service and sacrifice of all those that have defended our freedoms and protected our way of life.
Remembrance Sunday Service at Holy Trinity Church, Wickwar
Message from Holy Trinity Church – Please join us on Sunday 14th November for Remembrance Sunday. We will be gathering at 10.50am at the Memorial for a 2 minutes silence, followed by our service in Church.
Poppy display at Holy Trinity Church, Wickwar
A group of wonderful volunteers, including the local Scouts and Cubs, children from Alexander Hosea Primary School and Wickwar Out Of School Club, have created the most beautiful poppy display in the grounds of Holy Trinity Church. Around 2,500 individual hand-crafted poppies make up the display. Thank you to all of those who have worked so hard on this.
Wickwar Nature & Remembrance Trails
Don’t forget the ‘Nature & Remembrance’ walking trails put together by Wickwar environmental action group (WEAG) and Andrea Wheal of Inglestone Design – Garden & Landscape Design. The two walking trail maps are suitable for all ages and abilities. The short and long routes capture historical and natural sites of interest in Wickwar and the local countryside, including the stunning VE Day 75th Anniversary bench and the statue of a First World War Soldier which appears at the Wickwar Playing Field at this time each year. The maps are also posted outside the Town Hall.
