Home Buying and Selling Reform Consultation Launched

Parishioners may be interested to know that the government has launched a consultation on the home buying and selling process with a view to an overhaul of the system.

Potential reforms include:
• Sellers and estate agents required to provide buyers with vital information about a property upfront including the condition of the home and leasehold costs
• Binding contracts introduced to stop people walking away from agreements after months of negotiations
• Introduce mandatory qualifications and ‘Code of Practice’ for estate, letting and managing agents, driving high standards in the sector and increase trust in the industry
• Deploy the use of technology – including digital property logbooks, digital ID verification, and standardised data sharing – to enhance transparency and security for buyers and sellers
